Chiropractic Explained

An explanation of chiropractic made simple...that is our goal.  It should be a simple task but even most chiropractors get it mixed up.  To properly explain chiropractic to you, I must first educate you on how our bodies were developed...so it all makes sense in the end.  When you were conceived, you started out as two cells that joined together...and those two cells implanted in the uterus of your mother.  Those two cells divided again...and again...and again.  Cells joined together to form tissues.  Tissues joined together to form organs. Organs joined together to form systems.  Damaged cells were and continue to be repaired and replaced along the way.  This cycle of cell division and growth repeated itself exponentially until you ultimately became the person you are today.

This cycle of cell division, growth, and repair was and continues to be planned, coordinated, and intelligent.  It is not an accidental process.  It  It is the result of an Innate (Inborn) Intelligence that is found in each and every one of us.  When we discuss the different systems in the body, there is no doubt whatsoever that each one of them is important to our survival, growth, and development.  Our Innate Intelligence coordinated their development and continues to control their function through one specific system... one that is called the nervous system.  The function of your nervous system is to control and coordinate all activities inherent to life.  The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, and all nerve related tissues coming to and from the spinal cord and brain.  During the development of your nervous system, it was enclosed by and protected by bone.  The brain is protected by your skull and the spinal cord is protected by the spinal column...which is actually composed of 24 moveable bones which are called vertebrae.  Because your body needs to bend, move, and twist throughout your day, the vertebrae have to be able to move as well.  Your vertebrae are separated from each other by a disc that functions to cushion the individual vertebra and allow for this needed movement.  Where two vertebra come together separated by a disc, there is a small space or opening  formed that allows nerves to exit or enter the spinal cord.

Your brain coordinates the function of your body by sending messages down through the spinal cord.  These messages travel down and exit the spinal cord through nerves that pass through these tiny openings...and ultimately go to the intended body part and instruct it on how to function.  The respective body part performs its given task to the best of its ability and then sends a message back to the brain.  Basically, it tells the brain what happened with the instructions it was given.  When the brain is able to communicate with the body...without interference...and the body is able to communicate with the brain...without interference...your body is able to function well and regulate itself.  Sometimes, one or more of your vertebrae become misaligned and interfere with the small openings formed between the vertebrae.  This causes interference with the nerves that carry messages between your brain and body.  In turn, your body functions in a less than optimal manner.  Chiropractors have termed this interference as a Vertebral Subluxation.
Vertebral subluxations are bad, they don’t always cause pain, and pain isn’t always a sign that you have one.
Are Vertebral Subluxations Painful?
Vertebral Subluxations can be caused by many things and we don't always know when we have them.  They are caused by physical, chemical, and emotional stressors that we encounter every day.  I certainly think that we all can understand how a slip, fall, or injury can cause a subluxation.  Poor diet, lack of water, household chemicals, pollutants, and emotional stresses related to a spouse, job, or kids can cause them too.

Left uncorrected, even minor subluxations have been shown to interfere enough with cells and tissues to cause permanent degeneration.  The problem is that subluxations do not cause pain, and we don't always know when we have them.  The longer we are subluxated, the more damage it will cause, and only a chiropractor is trained to locate and correct them.  That is our job and it is all we do.  We understand the importance of a healthy functioning spine and nervous system.  That is why we check each other...and our loved ones...every single week.  It is that important.
Now that you know what we know, wouldn’t it make sense for you to do what we do?
